Its not always easy to eat healthy, especially when you’ve forgotten or you don’t know why its so important to eat healthy. I felt like I had forgotten my reason, I wasn’t taking my diet seriously anymore and you could notice that. my skin had flared up terribly, my moods were all over the place, i felt so out of routine all the time. I just needed that kick, that motivation and i found that one day when I was listening to a podcast (Bulletproof radio, episode 458) and it reminded me of the importance of a healthy diet, of regular exercise. it shifted me towards the idea of doing a complete food cleanse a reset.
With the food industry being so untrustworthy its hard to know what you’re actually putting into your body. We are not told about the pesticides used, the soil thats used to grow the plants. The feed the animals are eating. The small toxins that can be in some vegetables and the poor quality of meat can affect the small finite processes that are extremely sensitive in our own bodies. Think about it as a pyramid, at the bottom we have the soil that has been used for commercial farming for decades, pumped over and over again with pesticides. Thats our pyramids foundation. then we have the plants that grow in that soil. If a plant grows in that soil it is obviously uses whats in the soil as its nutrients, so whatever is in the soil can be in the plants. tats our next layer. Then we have our livestock that are fed food that makes them grow faster than usual, they are fed artificial hormones and poor quality feed. thats all our meats, eggs, dairy products. the dairy industry is the worst. Dairy cows are kept pregnant for the better half of a year. You know how many extra hormones anything produces when they’re pregnant? They milk the cows and we eat and drink the produce. Do you think all the extra cow hormones were meant for our bodies? Are good for all our intricate hormonal processes? Systems in our bodies are extremely sensitive, pumping extra hormones in there can definitely affect it. Anyways…the livestock is our next layer. Then we have all of our factory made goods, all our processed, artificial, yummy things that we see, everywhere. Chips, Doughnuts, sausage rolls, muffins, sausages, canned goods in brine, chocolates. Now these are all made from the dairy, pumped with sugar, made from the plants that grew in the contaminated soil, made from meats that sometimes are very fatty, very low quality meat, loaded with artificial flavours and sweeteners, bizarre things like Fanta? how do they even make Fanta? Looks like something made in a lab. thats the next layer. Guess whats at the top… Us. We now eat everything that i just mentioned on the pyramid. Can you imagine how that all accumulates in our bodies over the many many years… and we wonder we are hearing so many people being diagnosed with cancer, Parkinson’s, alzheimer’s, etc. how we fuel our bodies matters more than we realise. I’ve known this for a while. I think we all kind of know it… its just a hard truth to face. It’s hard to accept, it’s hard to change.
“All things are poison, nothing is without poison, only the dose makes a thing not a poison” – Paracelsus. The father of Toxicology. You don’t have to turn your life upside down but just making small, positive changes is good. Choosing to buy organic eggs or grass-fed beef, free range organic eggs and chicken, organic vegetables, sugar-free sauces. Fresh wholesome, real foods prepped at home. reducing the amount of fizzy drinks and dairy you consume. reducing processed carbohydrates and replacing them with complex ones instead. Small changes over time can be almost life changing.
This is a two day cleanse that focusses on no dairy, no refined or added sugars, no processed grains. No meat. A lot of veggies, organic if possible and meals that you have made yourself. it also includes optional added nutritional drinks, powders, etc. to help your body detox. I prepped all my food on Friday and then did the cleanse over the weekend. I usually lose track fo my diet over the weekend and eat just about whatever I can and then i wake up on Monday feeling really nasty and uncomfortable in my body, my skin is revolting and then i work all week to correct it and over the weekend reverse it all again so this time I wanted to do something different. You don’t have to do it over the weekend, any 2 -3 days are fine but I do suggest you follow it strictly in terms of not eating anything that isn’t on the list. It’s just 2 days. You can do it.
key: ( * ) means optional
(make enough for 2-3 days)
- A variety of fresh mixed vegetables (organic if possible). I used sweet potato, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, pumpkin, lentils and carrots. Add all of those to a pot and bring to a boil. let it boil for about 3-4 hours. for flavoring add things like cumin seeds, cayenne pepper, paprika, pink salt, black pepper and/or turmeric. keep checking the soup to make sure the water has not completely boiled away. you will need to top up with water. After about 4-6 hours remove the soup from the stove. let it cool. You can either blend it so its a smooth veg soup or just mash it a little and leave it chunky.
- baby spinach
- any other raw salad veggies
don’t add animal protein or dairy of any sort
as a dressing: lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, salt & pepper
Chia seed pudding:
- 1/3 cup chia seeds
- 1 cup almond milk. I would recommend making your own but if you want to you can buy some. I have a video on how to make almond milk click here to watch it.
- 2 tsp cocoa powder
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 grated apple
- 1 tbsp of raw honey
mix it all together until everything is combined then mix in the grated apple
place in a container over night and enjoy with fresh fruit (preferably berries and/or apple). Can be enjoyed warm or cold. I actually preferred it warm.
you can either make your own juices if you have a juicer. I bought mine from a health shop. No added sugar allowed. you can choose any flavors.
Juice 1: orange, lemon, ginger, green tea, cabbage, fennel, celery, cucumber, cos lettuce, cayenne pepper
Juice 2: Kale, spinach, broccoli, cabbage, mint, green beans, green apple, fennel, moringa, cucumber
The Flax drink and activated charcoal drink:
F: mix 2 tsp of psyllium husk or flax meal mixed in a glass of water
C: mix 2 tsp of activated charcoal powder mixed in a glass of water
2 day cleanse program:
|Day 1||– 1 glass of water with fresh lemon
– Shots* Beet Kvass, Fire tonic, kombucha raw vinegar
– Chia seed pudding with fresh fruit (apple, berries)
– Turmeric tablets or shots*
|– flax drink
– activated charcoal
– raw veg salad
|– Veggie soup
– Handful of almonds ir ¼ of an avo with salt and pepper
– Fresh juice
|Day 2||– 1 glass of water with fresh lemon
– Shots* Beet kvass, fire tonic, kombucha raw vinegar
– Chia seed pudding (either warmed or chilled) with fresh fruit
– Turmeric tablets or shots*
|– Flax drink
– Activated charcoal
– Raw veg salad
|– Veggie soup
– Handful of almonds or ¼ of an avo with salt and pepper
|– Fresh juice
I suggested making the salad, soup and chia seed pudding in bulk because if you get hungry through out the day you can have small portions of these as a snack and larger portions at meal times.
Although the Kombucha is optional, it is highly recommended. It will help reduce sugar craving over the 2 days however I would recommend having only one glass a day so your tummy can get use to it.
This is only a 2 day cleanse, for another 5 days of a more relaxed but still healthy meal challenge click here
I did these 2 days as a real food restore and then followed it with the 5 day meal challenge. I felt incredible and hope to keep some of the meals and eating habits I learned and incorporate them into my everyday eating. I will definitely be doing this 2 day cleanse again.
